About LEGO

LEGO is pretty much the factory where every child's earliest dreams are made. From the plain, brick-and-mortar pieces, as it were, simple geometric shapes that fit into one another such that you can build a whole fantasy world, to the sophisticated models, with customised pieces and carefully considered instructions to build an exact replica, LEGO is there to feed the imagination of adults and children alike. If you ever wanted to be a bus driver, a pilot, or a contractor, chances are the source of those aspirations came together with a role-playing game that started with a few pieces of Lego.

Bridging the generational gap since times immemorial, LEGO is a great gift, no matter the age of the person in question. Shop online for the perfect gift, with extra large pieces in sets intended for babies and toddlers, to avoid any risk of chocking should they stick them inside their mouths, or trademarked representations of the latest generational idols, from Harry Potter to Stranger Things. And the best part of it is that we offer LEGO discounts on our page, both deals and voucher codes, which means you can get the most fabulous gift without having to break the bank! So what are you waiting for?

LEGO history

LEGO began in 1932 at the carpentry workshop of Ole Kirk Christiansen in the provincial town of Billund, in Denmark's Jutland peninsula, when his traditional business (producing household goods such as ladders and housing material) went through a particularly slow period. Christiansen decided to build small replicas of his real-life products and began selling them as toys. It was hardly a gold mine, but it did provide a steady source of income at a time when not much else was going on.

LEGO pieces were all wooden until after the Second World War, when plastic suddenly became easily available in Denmark. Through the late 1940s and the 1950s LEGO produced both plastic and wooden pieces in tandem, with the Automatic Binding Bricks being launched in 1949. Improvements were made to the binding system through the following decade, such that by 1960, when a huge fire consumed the full stock of wooden pieces in the workshop, the Christiansen family decided to focus on plastic. It was a monumental decision, which came together with another savvy business proposition: LEGO started creating a series of complementing toys that together would form a LEGO world of sorts.

The resounding success of LEGO's transition to plastics saw the company grow considerably through the last quarter of the 20th century, a growth that was also visible in the range of toys the company produced: as the list grew to include cars, mini figures and even trains, LEGO grew into an multi-national success.

In the new millennium the company has been able to identify new opportunities, developing a series of licensing agreements that has allowed it to grow its cult status by entering the world of entertainment with the likes of Star Wars and Batman. After more than 80 years in the business of making toys that are fun and educational at the same time, LEGO is still going strong, with more than 17,000 employees across 15 different countries!
