About Yumi

Yumi was formed over 18 years ago, in 1995, in Camden by Uttam and Clare. Yumi has come a long way since its market stall days. In 1997 Clare started making handspun knitwear from Nepal with her own unique stamp and they began selling them in Camden. Soon enough they were selling them in stores across Europe.

In 2000, after the birth of their baby, they started a children's range called Uttam kids range. It was a bright and colourful range of knitwear with stripes, rainbow stripes and patchwork cords. A delight for both parents and kids!

After a trip to India in 2002 searching for inspiration, they found it. They bought some beautiful colourful sarees and decided to turn them into dresses, skirts and tops. These were a huge hit with customers.

After even more travels further afield to Japan, their core brand Yumi was born. Yumi means beautiful girl in Japanese. This brand portrayed all that made them unique. It was full of quirky unusual prints with retro-inspired styles. Soon enough celebs started wearing their pieces and they soon became a household name. Their first store opened in 2008, the vintage decor was the perfect showcase for their unique collection.

In 2009, they founded the Yumi Girl line, which was a range of clothes for girls and teens. They have continued to go from strength to strength.
