Morrisons history
Morrisons is the fourth largest supermarket chain in the UK with more than 11 million customers on a weekly basis.
t all started with a stall in Bradford where William Morrison began his business selling butter and eggs. By 1952 William's son, Ken, would take over the management of a few stalls in Bradford market. Ken's vision was to turn the group of stalls into one super-market, and he began making it reality when he opened the first Morrison's shop in the town centre.
It was the first shop in Bradford to have a self-service counter and to feature prices on all its products.
Morrison's first supermarket proper opened in 1961, with free parking available.
By the 1970s the company could boast a new HQ, the Hilmore House office, warehouse and factory complex. Soon enough, Morrison's expansion onto other areas of the UK, outside Bradford, began when it broke into Lancashire.
Since then, Morrisons' trajectory has rocketed skyward, growing into a national enterprise with more than 500 shops across the entire territory.
Morrisons operates its own fresh food factory, Farmers Boy, and its own meat processing site, as well as two large seafood processing sites. Accessing more than 11 million households through its online shops and employing more than 110,000 people.
Morrisons is undoubtedly one of the UK's favourite grocers. So why not browse our selection of Morrisons offers and join the millions who have already made Morrisons their preferred option.
